Jewell Spencer Thompson is the youngest of 6 children born to the
Late Rev. Dr. Evan E. Spencer and the preacher’s teacher,
Rev. Dr. Mildred (Neal) Spencer; the former pastors of Ebenezer Temple
UHCA in Hartford, CT. Jewell was born into the church, and served in numerous capacities by singing on the choir, ushering, and doing whatever her hands could find to do. Jewell’s ministry gifts manifested themselves when she began to teach Sunday school, and eventually became the YPHA (Young People’s Holy Association) President ministering to the young people of Ebenezer Temple along side her husband, then Youth Pastor T. Anthony Thompson. Jewell also served as the Comptroller and provided financial reports for the ministry at Ebenezer Temple and continues in that capacity with LFCC. Prior to moving to Maryland, Jewell served as the Chairlady of the Mildred N. Spencer Scholarship Fund for four years (then called the Ebenezer Temple Scholarship Fund).
In addition to her many ministry gifts Jewell Spencer Thompson believes in sharing her talents with her community. For two years she served as a volunteer for the Girls Scouts, a Junior Girl Scout Leader and member of the PTA for many years. She currently serves on the Executive Board for Harford Family House, a homeless transitional shelter and support program in Harford County MD. Jewell also serves on the YES Mentoring Group’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament and volunteers for several autism and developmental disability initiatives through Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD.
Jewell has compassion for young people and women. She seeks to do whatever she can to encourage, mentor and support in particular these groups of people. One of her favorite quotes is “There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being - to help someone succeed" by Alan Loy McGinnis. She serves as overseer to the Jes Us Girls Women’s Ministry at LFCC and continues to volunteer in serving young people in any capacity she can.
Jewell received her bachelor’s degree from Bowie State University in Bowie, MD (an HBCU) and she holds a Master of Science degree from Bay Bath College in Longmeadow, MA.
